National honors candidate Jared Goff was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks for his record-setting performance in Cal’s 48-46 comeback victory over Arizona State last Saturday in the team’s regular-season finale. The victory in the assured the bowl-eligible Golden Bears a winning season for the first time since 2011. Goff added national recognition with a Manning Award Star of the Week also for the second time in three weeks as well as an honorable mention selection for National Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards. Fan voting for the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week among this week’s eight stars is now open on the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page. When fan voting closes Wednesday at 11 am CT/9 am PT, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. Goff broke his own single-game school record with 542 passing yards while adding five touchdown throws and completing 30-of-51 passes as the Bears rallied from a 24-3 second-quarter deficit to defeat the Sun Devils. Goff led Cal scoring drives on each of the Bears’ final six possessions including five consecutive touchdowns with the final four on his scoring throws. On the final drive of the game, Goff led the Bears on a 69-yard drive to the Arizona State nine-yard line to set up Matt Anderson’s 26-yard game-winning field goal with no time remaining on the clock that sent Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium into a frenzy. The comeback was Cal’s biggest since the Bears rallied from a 21-0 second-quarter deficit in a 42-36 victory over Air Force at the Armed Forces Bowl on December 31, 2007. In addition to breaking his own single-game school record for passing yards, Goff added a single-game school mark with 573 yards of total offense and rushed for a career-high 31 yards including a career-long 20-yard run. Goff also surpassed his own single-season records for passing yards (4,252), touchdown passes (37) and total offense (4,260) in the contest while becoming the ninth quarterback in Pac-12 history to throw for more than 4,000 yards in a season. Goff has completed 316-of-492 passes over 12 starts and games played in 2015 for a 156.36 passer efficiency rating that currently ranks second on Cal’s all-time single-season list. Goff leads the Pac-12 and ranks third in the nation in touchdown passes, while ranking second in the conference and fourth nationally in passing yards and passing yards per game (354.3). He is also second in the league and in the top seven nationally in total offense (355.0, #5 NCAA), completions per game (26.33, #5 NCAA), points responsible for (230, #7 NCAA) and points responsible for per game (19.2, #7 NCAA). Goff has started all 36 games possible over his first three campaigns at Cal and set 26 records including career marks for passing yards (11,733), touchdown passes (90), completions (952) and total offense (11635). He has completed 952-of-1532 passes (62.1%) and has a 141.94 passer efficiency rating that is currently third all-time in school history. Goff’s Pac-12 Player of the Week selection is Cal’s fifth of the 2015 season with his own Nov. 14 pick preceded by the back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week selections of Kyle Kragen (Sept. 26, at Washington) and Stefan McClure (Oct. 3, vs. Washington State), and the Special Teams Player of the Week pick of Raymond Hudson (Nov. 7, at Oregon).
