Freshman quarterback Jared Goff underwent surgery earlier today to repair a separated shoulder suffered against Stanford last weekend, and according to a press release by Cal Athletics, he:
is expected to make a full recovery and be available for the Golden Bears' 2014 spring practices.
Hang on, let's get that again.
is expected to make a full recovery and be available for the Golden Bears' 2014 spring practices.
That is going to be huge, especially as he will be receiving the majority of reps next spring, entering as the presumed starter, rather than someone fighting for a job. Couple that with the fact that the Bear Raid is a rep-dependent system, healthy returning linemen/receivers, and you are looking at what should be an even better sophomore season from the program's leader in single season passing yards.
No word yet on when spring practice will be held, but it is expected to be sometime after spring break to let all the personnel heal up.
