Cal’s Haley Giavara named ITA Northwest Regional Rookie of the Year

The list of accolades from her impressive first season keep coming in as California Golden Bears women’s tennis star Haley Giavara was named the ITA Northwest Regional Rookie of the Year. She’ll subsequently be entered into the race for the national rookie of the year after a strong start to her Cal career.

Giavara finished with a record of 19-7 in singles play, ranking as high as No. 15 in the Oracle ITA singles pool. She got as high as No. 31 with her doubles partner Anna Bright, as they accomplished a 9-4 record together.

Her highlight-reel moment came when she defeated UCLA’s Elysia Bolton, who was just selected as the ITA National Player to Watch for 2020-21.

She also had a 3-2 doubles record with Valentina Ivanov as they topped USC’s top-ranked pair in Cal’s dominant win over USC this past season.

Giavara reached the singles quarterfinals in three different tournaments during her first year as a Golden Bear, and with her reaching the Northwest Regional Rookie of the Year award, the season’s accolades just keep rolling in.

The future is extremely bright for the San Diego native as she’s just now getting started at Cal.
