A total of 14 members of the Cal Swimming and Diving team earned Scholar All-America Honors for this past season. The award is presented by the Colleges Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The award is presented to student-athletes who have a GPA of 3.50 or higher and competed at the NCAA Championships.
From the men’s:
Pawel Sendyk earned first-team selection for the third time, while Reece Whitley, the Pac-12 Swimming Freshman of the Year, claimed a spot on the top team along with Nate Biondi. Jarod Hatch and Andy Song each received honorable mention for a second year. Sendyk and Song, both rising seniors, and Biondi, a rising junior, also received Pac-12 All-Academic kudos for the 2018-19 season, with Sendyk and Biondi earning first-team selection and Song taking a spot on the second team.
From the women’s:
Receiving individual first-team recognition, which also requires qualifying for and competing at the NCAA Championships, are Amy Bilquist, Ali Harrison, Katie McLaughlin, Robin Neumann and Alicia Wilson. Honorable mention honorees need to have met the GPA standard and attained an NCAA “B” qualifying time or competed at an NCAA zone diving meet. Those named honorable mention are Elizabeth Bailey, Alexa Buckley, Jenna Campbell and Courtney Mykkanen. Bilquist was tabbed a Scholar All-American for the fourth time in her career, while Campbell and Mykkanen are three-time honorees. Harrison, Neumann and Buckley received the award for the second time.
The Women’s team was also awarded the Scholar All-America Team for the 19th consecutive season. The team also won the Golden Bear Team Award, in May, as they held the highest GPA among all 30 Golden Bear teams for the 2018-2019 year.
