Onlygators.com, a Florida Gators site, is reporting that Florida is planning a home and home with Cal. The report also notes they are planning another home and home with Arizona State as well. In the report it notes that Cal would make the trip to the swamp in 2026 and Florida making the return trip in 2027.
Cal and Florida have played each other twice, both times in the Swamp. Florida has never made the return trip to Berkeley. Cal lost a close game 21-17 in 1974 with Steve Bartkowski giving the Bears a 4th quarter lead before the Gators rallies. That Cal team went onto finish 7-3-1 and tied for third in the Pac-10. Florida blew out Cal 41-13 in 1980—those Bears finished 3-8.
This would be Cal’s third potential foray in a decade into SEC territory. Cal concluded a sweep of Ole Miss this season. The Bears are slated to play Auburn in 2023 and 2024.
We’ll have more on the story as we get official statements.
