California Golden Bears linebacker Devante Downs appears to be ready to fully realize his potential. In his senior campaign, he’s already making a big impact for his team as the squad’s most productive player. Downs was recognized for his accomplishments with the Pac-12 defensive player of the week award.
Downs finished with a game-high 13 tackles including eight solo, as well as 0.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a quarterback hurry and a first-half ending interception he returned 39 yards for his fourth career INT.
Downs is the first Cal player to earn defensive player of the week honors for a team since Kyle Kragen and Stefan McClure received those honors in back-to-back weeks last fall. I somehow doubt he’ll be the last.
