Cal opens as 4.5 point underdogs to Oregon State

Seems fair. Seem scary.

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

The California Golden Bears are slight underdogs on the road to the Oregon St. Beavers. Cal is listed as 4.5 point underdogs on the original line, and I expect that line will get smaller the closer we get to kickoff. Oregon State is not a popular team, they aren't that great this season, and I doubt they will get much action compared to the Golden Bears.

I'm not sure which way I lean on this line yet. On one hand, Oregon State looks very beatable this season. Their defense just made Kevin Hogan look like an all-conference contender. But even though the Beavers offense has been struggling, the Cal defense is not exactly the most favorable matchup. Sean Mannion might still have the best pure arm in the conference, and it's terrifying to consider what he can do against this depleted and inexperienced secondary.

I have less ambivalent feelings about the over/under, whenever it gets released. Neither of these defenses are any good. I'm leaning strongly on the over, barring weirdness by one team.

What do you guys think? Which way are you leaning on this line right now? And what are your feelings on Beavers?
