Welcome to football Friday night!

Tonight is a tall task for our California Golden Bears.  Cal is coming off two straight home losses and now has to face the mighty Oregon Ducks, who are ranked sixth in the country and seem to have shaken off what ailed them in their stunning home loss to Arizona last month.

Cal has not beaten Oregon since the monsoon game of 2008 in Berkeley.  Since then, the Bears have lost five straight to the Ducks, most of them in fairly noncompetitive fashion.  Will tonight continue the trend of Oregon blowouts over Cal?  Or will the Bears find a way to keep up with the Ducks on the scoreboard and/or force just enough mistakes to stay in the game?

Before the season began, even the most sunshine pumping of Cal fans gave the Bears no chance of winning this game tonight.  Oregon is, after all, a national championship contender.  And even though the most sunshine pumping of sunshine pumping Cal fans still view the Ducks as the prohibitive favorite, there is some room for optimism.  Cal has shown (save for the Washington game) that it has the offense to stay in games and force the other team to score lots of points to win.  And Oregon, in losing to Arizona a few weeks ago, has shown that it is beatable.  So..

Maybe I am.  The way this season has gone for Cal, anything is possible.

You know the drill.  This is your pregame open thread.  Get out your pregame thoughts and anxieties here.  Watch for the link to the first quarter thread as the 7:00 pm PT kickoff gets close.
