Happiness needs sadness.
Success needs failure.
Benevolence needs evil.
Love needs hatred.
Victory needs defeat.
Pleasure needs pain.
You must experience and accept the extremes. Because if the contrast is lost, you lose appreciation; and when you lose appreciation, you lose the value of everything.
- Philippos
This is Pat Fitzgerald, thinking that there was a time where he could yell and not look lost, but instead a role model for all to follow. Coaching at a school like Northwestern and being successful pretty much validates you in the eyes of the national media because the national media is full of Northwesterners. Now he's a loser of eight of nine games, and they will go back to forgetting that Northwestern plays football until he upsets Michigan 10-7 and is revered as an up-and-comer once again.
But now, Pat is just sad. And ornery.
"To be 8-1 in the opener," Fitzgerald said, "I'm not gonna sit here and jump off Ryan Field's tower. I'm sure I have plenty of critics. I wore white today; I'm sure people wanted me to wear purple. I'm over it."
You tell them Pat. You fell behind 31-7 to a team that was 1-11 last season! You just got unlucky. You won't get caught that way with Northern Illinois and Penn State and Wisconsin and Nebraska all coming up at the turn. This is where you turn that frown upside down!
After this handshake of course. (HT Redonkulous)
It's caption contest time! What is Pat Fitzgerald thinking?
