Cal reportedly has hired Charles Ragle from Arizona, likely the new special teams coach

We have a ST Coach. Who was also a good recruiter for the Wildcats in Arizona.

According to Football Scoop (and “Liked” by Cal Football’s Twitter), head coach Justin Wilcox hired away Charlie Ragle from the Arizona Wildcats. Wilcox went hard for Ragle, and reportedly got him for a three year deal.

Ragle was the Assistant TE/ST coach for the Wildcats. According to Tuscon Star beat writer Zach Rosenblatt, Ragle will coach at least special teams.

Here is a story about Coach Ragle who helped boost in-state recruiting for the Wildcats due to his knowledge of Arizona high schools. He was the head coach of Chaparral high school for four years before joining Rich Rodriguez’s coaching staff. It’s rumored he let athletic director Greg Byrne know what he thought about Rich Rod, which might have helped lead to his hiring.

Ragle is likely to take over recruiting for the Arizona region under the Justin Wilcox regime. He has recruited plenty of tight ends for the Wildcats and could be part of the efforts there if he isn’t actually named tight ends coach.

Here is the list of Ragle’s past positions per Arizona Wildcats’ website:

Ragle's Coaching History

  • Arizona, tight ends/special teams (2013-2017)
  • Chaparral HS (Ariz.), head coach (2007-11)
  • Arizona State, graduate assistant (2006)
  • Chaparral HS (Ariz.), defensive coordinator (2005)
  • Moon Valley HS (Ariz.), defensive coordinator (2000-04)

Cal will only need to hire coaches for two of the three of linebackers, tight ends, and running backs.

Welcome to Cal, Charles! Go Bears!
