Post–Week 1 bowl projections: Hello, old friend?

New, comments

But would this be a feel-so-good reunion?

With merely a win over the UC Davis Aggies in our belt and following projections that there might be fewer bowl slots than bowl-eligible teams this year, it’s a bit of a surprise to see the California Golden Bears are currently being projected to some bowl games at this point in the season.

To get the bad news out of the way first, we are not predicted to be in a bowl by Sports Illustrated, USA Today, or CBS Sports.

But things get interesting with ESPN.

Mark Schlabach predicts we will play in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl in a reunion with old friend Tony Franklin’s Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.

What a reunion, right?

Not compared to Kyle Bonagura’s projection.

Bonagura has us facing off against the Kansas State Wildcats. In the Cheez-It Bowl.

I’m getting tingly just thinking about it.
