Post–Week 8 bowl projections: Is the postseason still in the cards for the Bears?

Problems arising thanks to the hand we’ve been dealt.

To get the pessimistic views out of the way first, the California Golden Bears have fallen out of the bowl projections by CBS Sports after our loss to the Oregon State Beavers.

247 Sports echoes some of last week’s predictions by placing us in the Sun Bowl against the North Carolina Tar Heels. We’re both coming off of heartbreaking losses—theirs a loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies in six overtime periods. Plus, they’re coached by Mack Brown, so let your fists clench at the thought of this match-up.

The dual prognosticators of ESPN represent both the sunny and the shadowy sides of the projections—Mark Schlabach is sending us to the Las Vegas bowl to battle the Boise State Broncos while Kyle Bonagura (of the former ESPN Pac-12 Blog) agrees with CBS Sports that we won’t be receiving a bowl invite this year. Uncle Ted would give us more respect.
