We’ll kick off this week’s bowl projections by looking at the site that disregards weeks—who needs to track time when they follow sports at all time? 247 Sports has us playing in the Sun Bowl against the North Carolina Tar Heels. This would be a fun surprise for giving us the chance to play North Carolina in each of the three years of Justin Wilcox’s career with the California Golden Bears, meaning Wilcox will have faced them more often than any non-Californian Pac-12 South team. There’s also the Mack Brown connection, for any Cal fans who still hold a grudge there. I’ve moved on given that he’s now at a new team (not to mention after a retirement) and we’re far removed from Tedford—and if I’ve managed to move on, then that’s a pretty good sign that the time to do so is long past.
To keep things nice and simple, CBS Sports has the same projection.
ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura is sending us to the Las Vegas Everlasting Ecstasy Bowl against the San Diego State Aztecs while Mark Schlabach predicts we’ll face the Virginia Cavaliers in the Sun Bowl, which is apparently now named after Tony the Tiger. Frosted Flakes may be gr-r-reat, but there is nothing greater on this fine planet than the great city of Las Vegas.
