After eight top 25 teams took their cue to lose this week, the California Golden Bears probably made the wise decision to take the week off and stand pat. Cal receives top 25 votes yet again, finishing 30th in both the AP and the Coaches Poll.

There are four ranked teams ahead of Cal in the Pac-12: The Oregon Ducks (No. 12 in the AP and the Coaches), the Utah Utes (No. 13 in the AP, No. 14 in the Coaches), the Arizona State Sun Devils (No. 17 in the AP and the Coaches) and the Washington Huskies (No. 25 in the AP, No. 23 in the Coaches).

Cal has already played three of the four ranked teams in the Pac-12, going 1-2. They will head on the road to Utah in two weeks to try and even their record up to .500.

As nice as the votes are, it’s hard to see Cal being ranked again this season unless they either (a) beat Utah, or (b) win every other game other than Utah. Neither are particularly likely at this moment, but who knows how the Bears will look after the bye week?
