After 3–0 start, Cal is receiving votes—ranked 37th in the Coaches Poll and 30th in the AP Poll

The nation has now noticed us.

With our non-conference schedule finished—a perfect 3–0 record with wins over the North Carolina Tar Heels and the BYU Cougars—the California Golden Bears have started to receive votes in the national polls.

The Coaches Poll has us receiving 11 votes, tied for 37th with the Syracuse Orange. One of our victims at this early junction in the season—BYU—is ahead of us at 33rd with 30 votes.

Unfortunately, that trend continues in the AP Top 25. Here, Cal is 30th with 40 votes, but the BYU that we handled at their home is 25th with 75 votes.

Other Pac-12 teams that are ranked or receiving votes are the Stanfurd Cardinal, the Washington Huskies, the Oregon Ducks, the Colorado Buffaloes, the Washington State Cougars, the Utah Utes, and the Arizona State Sun Devils—a whopping eight Pac-12 teams (including the Bears). The only teams with neither rank nor votes are the UC Los Angeles Bruins, the USC Trojans, the Oregon State Beavers, and the Arizona Wildcats; I wonder when is the last time that Cal got votes and the two SoCal schools did not.
