The 2020 California Golden Bears football roster is taking shape — and one of those added to it is former Notre Dame High School standout Evan McLurkin. Added as a preferred walk-on (PWO) for the class of 2020, McLurkin announced his decision to attend Cal on social media.
I’m very excited to finally announce that I have received a PWO offer and am committed to THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA,BERKELEY. I want to thank the Cal coaches, my family, friends, and everyone who helped me get to this point. Excited to get to work!! @CalFootball #GoBears pic.twitter.com/L7sgbglNzr

According to MaxPreps, McLurkin had 46 solo tackles and five interceptions a year ago for Notre Dame. He also chipped in on offense with 16 catches for 195 yards and a touchdown. The site also credits him with four pass breakups last season.
He’s also a dual-sport star and competed in the long jump and triple jump earlier this year before all events were cancelled. McLurkin finished with a personal record 19’ 2” long jump at the Notre Dame vs St. Francis meet as well as a 37’ 1” triple jump at the same meet.
He ran in the 100 meters and 200 meters in high school as well but seems to have switched focus to just football after the 2018 season.
McLurkin is 6’0, 185 pounds and played safety as well as wide receiver in high school. He’s projected to join a large group of defensive backs committed for the class of 2020.
Welcome aboard Evan!
