There isn’t a No. 99 on the football roster this year, so here’s a look at former No. 99 Malik McMorris

Football is going to return. Speak it into truth.

California Golden Bears football is going to return. Be optimistic.

And it will follow.

Just this past week, we saw the NCAA Division I Council vote to allow voluntary athletic activities for football to return for June 1-June 30, sparking thought that the season will in fact start on time.

And as such, here we are with our countdown towards the 2020 Cal football season. The 2020 season is scheduled to start with an August 29, 2020 date against UNLV. The Golden Bears are to travel to Las Vegas, Nevada and Allegiant Stadium to take on the Rebels and nead head coach Marcus Arroyo, who replaced Tony Sanchez and hails from Oregon, where he spent the last three seasons as an offensive coordinator.

All that means that we’re officially 99 days away from the Cal football season.

With no player numbered 99 on the roster for 2020 as of right now, we’ll kick off our countdown with a look at a previous No. 99, the very lovable Malik McMorris.

A career spanning from 2015 to 2018, McMorris played in all 50 games possible and had 19 starts. While he totaled only 15 career receptions and 110 yards, he paved the way for multiple running backs and multiple big games from his mates in the backfield.

He had four receiving touchdowns and another rushing touchdown, meaning he scored a touchdown on 20% of his career touches on offense.

McMorris won multiple awards for athletics and academics during his time as a Cal Bear, notably being selected to the Pac-12 All-Academic team in 2018 as an honorable mention. He won the Frank Schlessinger Coaches Award that same year.

He was also a member of the Cal track and field team during his time in Berkeley as well.

And yes, we have the highlights from one of the best blocking fullbacks of the past decade.

Thanks for the memories, Malik! Thanks for reminding us that we’re officially out of triple-digits in terms of days until the 2020 season!
