The longtime California Golden Bears LB Evan Weaver had to wait a bit longer than he probably would have liked, but in the end, his NFL dream was realized when the Arizona Cardinals selected him with the 202nd pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
The six-round selection now joins fellow rookie LB Isaiah Simmons, who was selected in the first round. Weaver won the 2019 Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year while Simmons won the Butkus Award as well as the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
This is now a stacked linebacking corps in Phoenix and a group that should make tons of plays.
Weaver’s high school and college careers have each been record-setting so he has just as good a shot as anyone else to not only make the roster with Arizona, but to contribute in many ways as soon as Year 1.
Congrats, Evan! Always remember, you left Berkeley with Cal having The Axe!
