The California Golden Bears jumpstarted their 2021 recruiting on Junior Day with their first commitment. Mission Viejo (Ca.) athlete Mavin Anderson has made his commitment to the Bears.

Anderson measures at 6-1, 175 pounds. 247Sports Composite ranks Anderson as the 255th best prospect in the country, the 45th best wideout in the nation and the 24th best prospect in California. Here are his video highlights.

Anderson has already received offers from six Pac-12 programs, including Oregon and Arizona State. Colorado, Oregon State, Washington State, Nebraska, Minnesota and Auburn have also sent out offers.

The Cal coaching staff envisions Anderson as a speedster wide receiver to stretch defenses.

More on Anderson’s decision to commit to Cal:

“A big reason for my decision was my relationship with coach (Burl) Toler (WR coach),” Anderson said. “We really connected and hit it off. We talk all the time and most of the time, it’s not even about football, it’s about life and how I’m doing.

“Obviously a degree from Cal is huge too and academics are a big part of my decision here. I’m still not sure what I want to major in but a degree from Cal opens up so many doors. With football, you never know what can happen so you need backup options and something to fall back on and a Cal degree is huge for me.”

Cal is hosting a major junior day this weekend and saw a few commitments sprinkle about in the weeks following, so expect more news to drop in the coming weeks.

Welcome to Cal Mavin! GO BEARS!
