FBSchedules has learned that the California Golden Bears and Wyoming Cowboys will be playing one another in the very, very distant future. Like a decade from now!
Cal is slated to play Wyoming in their season-opener in California Memorial Stadium on September 2, 2028. The Bears will then head to Laramie on September 8, 2029.
Cal now has at least one mid-major opponent scheduled for nine of the ten years this decade:
- UNLV in 2020, 2022, 2025, 2026.
- Nevada in 2021, the final game in the two-to-one scheduling agreement Cal had with the Wolf Pack (the original matchups were in 2010 & 2012).
- San Jose State in 2023 (although it’s unclear when the second in the home-and-home will be played—it was originally 2019).
- San Diego State in 2024, 2025.
- Wyoming in 2028, 2029.
This will be the first matchup between Cal and Wyoming since the 1990 Copper Bowl, the only time Cal and Wyoming have ever played one another. Cal won 17-15, its first bowl win since the 1938 Rose Bowl.
