GET HYPE IT’S (ALMOST) GAMEDAY

Friends, students, Golden Bears, lend me your ears.

For eight long, dark, barren months, we have starved. The wells of college football dried up, leaving us trapped in the desert known only as Wyking Jones. For eight months, we had to sustain ourselves with the crumbs of spring practice reports, the mere glimpses of Kuony Deng in Last Chance U, and Coach Alexander’s Twitter. We’ve watched the end of the USC game far more times than we’re willing to admit in polite company, and we sent that Sports Illustrated #TAKERS article to our friends and immediate family.

AND DESPITE OUR DEHYDRATION, WE’VE MADE IT. WE SURVIVED THE OFFSEASON.

THIS SATURDAY, MEMORIAL STADIUM. THE CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS ARE GONNA RUN ONTO THAT BEAUTIFUL FOOTBALL FIELD/EARTHQUAKE EXPERIMENT AND PLAY SOME DAMN FOOTBALL.

No more talking, no more analysis, no more worrying. Just football in Bear Territory.

So, Cal fans everywhere, I need you!

TO GIVE ME A C!

Forged in the fires of the deepest Mine of Moria, a collaboration project from the brains of every Nobel Laureate on campus, came the #TAKERS. THE™ best secondary in college football. But, last year was just a preview, the appetizer for this upcoming feast. This year, our Golden Bears’ defense will completely erase the Dykes curse and assert their place in the pantheon of footballl.

But our offense! If you still worry, hear the motto this year, repeated in so many post-practice interviews: “Iron sharpens iron.” The offense knows what it has to do. And it’ll get done.

GIVE ME AN A!

The University of California, Davis. The University Farm. The Northern Branch. Berkeley Rejects.

I’ve seen way too many Davis fans talking big game on Twitter the past couple months. Sure, I’m all for some friendly rivalry, but these Aggies seem to think that they just knocked off Alabama. Like, ok, little brother, you definitely didn’t need overtime just to beat Idaho State last year. Bears by 50.

AND GIVE ME AN L!

Can you smell that? In the air? The underestimation from the PAC-12? The disrespect of the national media? The trust that you, automatically and naturally, place in Coach Wilcox? A perfect storm brews in Strawberry Canyon. A team to love. A game to watch. And a season to remember. I can’t wait to be there, this Saturday, at Memorial Stadium.

What’s that spell? CAL!

Who are we? CAL!

And who’s gonna win? CAL!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOO BEARS!
