College football is back when you have FBS vs. FCS lines to discuss.
The California Golden Bears might have a historic defense on record, but bookmakers appear to be taking pause. Despite playing an FCS opponent, the UC Davis Aggies are only 13 point underdogs in Berkeley this Saturday, with the over/under set at 50. This is a far cry from their last FCS line (37.5 against Idaho State), but the Bears fell two touchdown short of that line, and UC Davis (an FCS playoff team last year) is immeasurably better than Idaho State.
Cal only won two of their seven games by two touchdowns or more—one against two-win Oregon State, the other against Idaho State. If you feel like making a bet on a Cal game—and I ask, why would you subject yourself to that—the under might feel safer based on historical results. Cal went 6-6-1 against the spread last season, but went under 10 out of 13 times.
