Sorry about the long hiatus. I’ve had a string of early wake up calls. I expected to have Tuesday off but then I got called in on Monday and its another early wake up call. So I tried to get this done as fast as I can before I head out... of course, with Golden Bear Report doing daily countdown articles that makes catching up after 10 days off a bit hard...

Football

  • Two Cal websites summarize the WR situation, which should be another uphill battle this season. The Daily Cal laments the losses of Noa and Wharton, and Bear Territory also has more questions than answers.
  • In another “good case” scenario, Golden Bear Report makes the assumption that the wide receiver crew will be good this year (with reasons to back it up).
  • The fifth and final “good case” scenario (the first three were on my July 4 GN) takes a look at what would happen if the Bears get an even more dominant pass rush.
  • Golden Bear Report did a spotlight article on Mike Saffell.
  • Cal Bears Maven hopes that the defensive expectations aren’t too much for them.
  • Predictions are made on who will get the starting nods on offense and on defense.
  • A review of Justin Wilcox’s first recruiting class and where all those players are now (most, but not all, are still in Berkeley).
  • In case you want to see what the average star ranking is for the team, here are the offense and the defense.
  • Here are the true freshmen who could play this season, and the redshirt freshmen who definitely will play.
  • Published on the day that the UC Davis game became 50 days away, can the Bears #Drop50 this season and how?

Basketball

  • Paris Austin did some videos that Cal Bears Maven. Here’s him giving his thoughts on the new coaching staff. There’s more on their website.
  • They also interviewed Kareem South. Here’s what he’s hoping to accomplish in Berkeley in one season.
  • Incoming player Logan Alters has been traveling the world. (Hey me too!!) Learn about his experiences here.
  • Find out why Charmin Smith’s first recruit, Leilani McIntosh, chose California to attend school.

Misc.

  • California Magazine did a video feature on Camryn Rogers thats worth your time.
  • Learn about the accolades of Cal Softball’s new assistant coach, Megan Brown. Wait, my bad. I mean DR. Megan Brown!

Another hiatus is in order, next GN will come on the 24th.
