Mark Fox is bringing on his former boss as most likely his lead assistant. Trent Johnson has reportedly been brought on as part of Fox’s first staff.
Our @slamdunk406 confirmed that #Cal will be adding former Stanford head coach Trent Johnson to Mark Fox's initial staffhttps://t.co/RAMF04f88N

Johnson is probably most well-known to Cal fans as being Mike Montgomery’s successor at Stanford, leading the Cardinal to one Sweet 16 and three NCAA tournament appearances. Johnson’s biggest recruiting coup was bringing the Lopez twins to Stanford. Johnson would leave Stanford for LSU after the Lopez twins graduated, but would only make the tournament once more in the next eight years at stints with the Tigers and the TCU Horned Frogs.
Before Johnson went to Stanford, he helped build up Nevada with Fox as his assistant. Nevada would make a Sweet 16 appearance in 2004 and would continue that success with Fox in his next two seasons. The two are clearly familiar with each other, and will try and replicate that success together as a Pac-12 duo.
Johnson was born in Berkeley, so welcome home Coach!
