The California Golden Bears might have to turn to their third string quarterback on the road against the Utah Utes. Devon Modster has been listed as week-to-week due to an undisclosed injury which forced him to leave Saturday’s game against Oregon State.

If Modster isn’t able to go, that leaves Cal very thin at their biggest position of need. Spencer Brasch took over on the final two drives and will now potentially be making his first start in Utah. Which would mean both Modster and Brasch will have had to start their college careers on the road against the best teams in the Pac-12.

Other players listed as week-to-week include:

  • Wide receiver Kekoa Crawford, who has not played since the Cal-Ole Miss game.
  • Nickel back Traveon Beck, who missed Cal’s game against Oregon State.
  • Offensive center Michael Saffell, who was carted off against Oregon.
  • Wide receiver/kickoff returner Jeremiah Hawkins and wide receiver Ricky Walker also join the list of the injured.

So yeah, basically a backup offense will be heading up to Utah next week against a top two defense in the Pac-12. Awesome.

On the opposite end, Utah QB Tyler Huntley was also injured against Arizona State and his status is uncertain. Huntley insists he will be playing.

Additionally, backup sophomore outside linebacker Joseph Ogunbanjo has been suspended indefinitely. It won’t hurt the Cal defense.
