Samb’s announcement on Twitter is an early win for California Head Coach Charmin Smith, a first-time head coach of a collegiate women’s basketball team. Smith was named the head women’s basketball coach on June 21, after the Golden Bears’ previous head coach Lindsay Gottlieb joined the Cleveland Cavaliers as an assistant coach.
The Houston (Texas) Westside post was considering Cal, along with the Harvard Crimson, Rice Owls, Michigan Wolverines and Wake Forest Demon Deacons in her final five. ESPN ranks her the sixth-best post player on the floor, and 53rd overall.
Recent scouting report from ESPN:
Skilled low-post prospect with efficient interior game; post up game yields results; defends in the paint, rebounds and initiates the fast break; mobile in transition game; emerges and elite front court prospect in the class of 2020.

California Golden Bears women’s basketball might have a slight rebuilding year this upcoming season, but it’s looking like the future is bright for the Bears under Smith.
Welcome to Cal Fatou! Go Bears!
