Cal FB Recruiting, Friday Night Lights: Week Three

Braxten Croteau’s 4 sacks headlines this week’s roundup of Cal’s current recruiting class.

Braxten Croteau (DE) and Ryan Puskas (DB): Peoria (AZ), Liberty High School

Liberty improved to 3-0 this season with a 49-43 victory against local rivals Sunrise Mountain. Croteau notched 9 tackles with a whopping 5 tackles for a loss, while Puskas recorded a team-high 12 tackles. Croteau was a wrecking ball in the opposing backfield as he sacked the quarterback 4 times (his highlight is below, followed by Puskas’ highlight).

Ben Coleman (OL): Temecula (CA), Linfield Christian High School

Linfield Christian improved to 3-0 with a third consecutive blowout and shutout victory. Once again, the offensive line dominated to the tune of 325 yards rushing on 26 carries.

Blake Antzoulatos (LB): West Hills (CA), Chaminade College Prep

Chaminade Prep won its second consecutive game to improve to 2-1 this season with a 23-3 win over Mission Hills.

Brian Driscoll (OL/DL): San Diego (CA), Torrey Pines High School

Torrey Pines improved to 3-0 with a 35-0 win against Olympian. Torrey Pines has posted a shutout in its two victories this season. The Torrey Pines rushing attack piled up 233 yards on 43 carries.

DeCarlos Brooks (RB): Chandler (AZ), Chandler High School

DeCarlos Brooks had a shorter night than usual as the starters were pulled fairly early in this 62-0 victory which saw Chandler improve to 2-1 this season. Brooks rushed 7 times for 34 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Malik Bradford (WR): Long Beach (CA), Millikan High School

Bradford made his season debut after dealing with a hamstring injury, but it was not enough to lead Millikan to victory as they slipped to 2-1 after a 21-10 loss to Aquinas (CA). Bradford caught 4 passes for 29 yards.

Elijah Mojarro (TE): Orange (CA), Orange Lutheran High School

Orange Lutheran rebounded from last week’s defeat at the hands of Centennial by defeating Vista Murrieta 42-17 to improve to 2-1 on the year. Mojarro caught 2 passes for 8 yards.

Spencer Brasch (QB): Gilbert (AZ), Higley High School

Brasch led Higley through the air and on the ground in a 39-14 mauling of Mountain View which takes them to 3-0 this season. Brasch rushed 18 times for 101 yards and 1 touchdown, while throwing for 5 touchdowns, 1 interception, and 324 yards on 19 of 36 passing.

Kyle Smith (LB): Los Gatos (CA), Los Gatos High School

Los Gatos improved to 2-0 with a 45-0 destruction of Leigh. Smith has yet to play this season.

Brayden Rohme (OT): Gilbert (AZ), Perry High School

Perry improved to 2-1 with a 35-19 win over Red Mountain. Rohme and the offensive line had a busy night as they led the way for the Perry rushing attack to accrue 382 yards on 44 rushes.

Zahran Manley (DB): Upland (CA), Upland High School

Upland continued its perfect start with a 35-7 victory over Redlands East Valley to improve to 2-0. Manley contributed 4 tackles.

Miles Williams (DB): Mansfield (TX), Mansfield High School

Mansfield lost its season opener 28-6 to Broken Arrow (OK). Williams shows off some good tackling ability to go with his coverage skills despite the loss.

McKade Mettauer (OL): Houston (TX), The Woodlands High School

Mettauer and The Woodlands took a tough loss on the road against Cy-Fair 27-7.

Orin Patu (LB): Seattle (WA), Rainier Beach High School

Rainier Beach opened its season with a 38-13 win over Fife. Patu was an all-around force in this one as he recovered a fumble, blocked a kick, and consistently disrupted the Fife offense at the line of scrimmage.

Curley Young Jr. (LB): Pflugerville (TX), Hendrickson High School

Hendrickson dominated Texas High School 56-7 to grab a season-opening victory. Young Jr. consistently pressured the quarterback whether he was rushing as a defensive end with his hand on the ground, or as a pass-rushing outside linebacker.


Bradley Archer (TE/LB): Livermore (CA), Livermore High School

Brett Johnson (DT): Phoenix (AZ), Desert Vista High School
