Football Film Study: Cal’s Downfield Passing Game

See how Cal uses a variety of formations to attack with the same concept in multiple ways.

At this point in the season, it looks like the QB competition for the California Golden Bears is more-or-less resolved—and so now is a good time to take a look at the identity of our passing game with Chase Garbers at the helm. In this video, I look at the Wheel Route, one of our most common strategies for springing guys open downfield. Most importantly, I look at how OC Beau Baldwin is able to generate favorable match-ups with this concept and how to protect it from becoming too predictable by running it out of a variety of formations, each of which impacts the defense in a different way.
