Uniforms and captains are set for Cal–Idaho State

In a sense, you can expect more of the same when the Idaho State Bengals come to Berkeley.

The California Golden Bears will close out our nonconference schedule with a home game against the Idaho State Bengals of the FCS.

And yet we won’t look that different than we did last week during our road game against the BYU Cougars of the FBS—the Bears will take the field in our all-blue gear once again.

While our unis will continue the tradition (?) set last week, our game captains will continue a tradition set when Justin Wilcox set foot on campus—defense. (When will the fans start piling on with the equal-parts-hilarious-and-logical quip of “Justin Wilcox doesn’t care about offense”?) This week’s captains will both represent the defense: redshirt-senior S Quentin Tartabull and redshirt-sophomore DE Tevin Paul.

Against BYU, Tartabull registered three tackles. Tartabull played in all 12 games last year, including starting the first five games of the season. As a member of the Takers, Tartabull took the ball away from the Washington State Cougars’ offense in 2017.

Paul just celebrated his 20th birthday on Wednesday and made two tackles last week—both for loss. As a redshirt freshman last year, Paul played in 11 of our 12 games and has been listed as an OR starter at DE, culminating (at this early point in the season) as Cal’s Defensive Player of the Week against BYU.

Big congrats to Quentin and Tevin, who certainly earned this honor!
