Football

  • Cal is included in Athlon Sports’ pretty early Bowl Projections for 2018, playing our ol’ friends San Diego State in Las Vegas.
  • Trace Travers finished up his roster breakdown, ending the series with the players with numbers 10 to 2.
  • Shannon Carroll lists the Top 5 quarterbacks that Cal will play this year in conference play.
  • Looks like the NFL Network is doing a flag football tournament with some NFL players. Don’t have time to break things down, but there’s some Cal guys that will be playing (like Jeremy Ross, Jahvid Best and Justin Forsett). Maybe it’ll get its own post later.

Misc.

More academic honors!

  • Six Cal Men’s Rowing athletes were given All-Academic honors by the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Board of Stewards: Maarten Hurkmans, Martin Mackovic, Ferdinand Querfeld, Christoph Seifriedsberger, Joachim Sutton, and Natan Wegrzycki-Szymczyk. Wegrzycki-Szymczyk was named the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year a while ago.
  • Ten women’s water polo players were honored with All-Academic awards by the ACWPC. Claire Sonne made the “Outstanding” list with a 3.88 GPA. Kindred Paul, Sofia Rivas, Kitty Lynn Joustra, and Brigit Mulder received “Superior” honors with GPAs between 3.41 and 3.7 (Paul received an All-Academic honor all four of her years at Cal). Lauren Charter, Jackie Sanders, Hannah DeRose, Emma Wright, and the recently graduated Anna Illes made the “Excellent” list with GPAs between 3.2 and 3.4 this year. Congrats to all!
