This was announced a couple days ago and I was going to put it in the Golden Nuggets, but after seeing all the “MBB and FB got a new recruit” posts, plus having plenty of material for today’s GN, I figure a big WBB signing deserves its own post too.
Women’s Basketball got a huge signing today when guard Receé Caldwell announced she would use her 5th and final year of eligibility at The University of California.
Caldwell (no relation to Talia, but hopefully just as valuable to the Bears as she was) started her career at UCLA where she averaged 6.9 points a game (nice!), before opting to transfer to Texas Tech (the mandatory redshirt is why she has the 5th year) where she had a huge impact in her junior and senior years. She was named to the All-Big-12 honorable mentions squad in her junior year, and was an All-Academic honor in both her junior and senior year. Unfortunately, her senior year ended early because of an injury, but she is all ready to go for the Bears. And in an area of big need for the Bears, she has a great three point shot!
I’m not entirely sure where she fits given the Bears already have some great guards, but along with McDonald’s All-American McKenzie Forbes the Bears should be able to pick up where they left off last year. With Asha Thomas and Kristine Anigwe on their final years of eligibility, the window to return to the Final Four (pictured above, see? I justified its use!) is now!
