Cal reportedly hires former UC Los Angeles assistant coach David Grace

Wyking Jones’s staff adds an assistant with West Coast familiarity.

One week ago, associate head coach Tim O’Toole announced that he would be leaving the California Golden Bears Men’s Basketball program. Today, head coach Wyking Jones has reportedly found his replacement.

David Grace has been in the news lately for the unusual circumstances of his dismissal from the baby bears—the UC Los Angeles Bruins—due to a lack of clarity if the decision was made by head coach Steve Alford or athletic director Dan Guerrero.

Grace served for a whopping 20 years in the Air Force prior to his coaching career, which has been exclusively on the west coast—the state of Arizona (for high school), the Sacramento State Hornets, the San Francisco Dons, the Oregon State Beavers, and the aforementioned Bruins. Grace is regarded as a phenomenal recruiter (#7 nationally and #1 on the west coast in 2016) and helped nab the almighty Lonzo Ball.

Based on his recruiting chops alone, it looks like this is a great hire for the program and for Jones. Welcome to Cal, David!
