Roundtables: Cal in the 2018 NFL Draft.

It’s been a while since some defensive guys have been drafted.

NCAA Football: Utah at California John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

NFL Draft is around the corner. Where do you see former California Golden Bears getting drafted? Is there any particular team you would like to see one of our former players on?

TwistNHook: I would love to see either the Oakland Raiders or the San Francisco 49ers get James Looney. He is a very talented player. The Niners seemed poised to take that next step with Jimmy G at the helm, but they need a defense. Getting Richard Sherman (Stanford’s own) helps, but upfront DLine play is important. They already lost two DLine players in Tank and Lynch this off-season, so getting another young, promising DLine guy in the draft makes a lot of sense.

Piotr Le: I think Darius Allensworth will be a UDFA/Round 7 steal for a team that is looking for a good corner with good instincts and resilience. I still think he has great potential due to the skills he has shown over the years despite being benched in 2017. However, projecting college to NFL is hard—especially for corners.

Rob Hwang: Devante Downs to the Los Angeles Rams would be a very interesting choice to see. They need pass rushers from the linebacker position and Downs would have no problem playing that role. With reigning Defensive MVP Aaron Donald and newly-acquired Ndamukong Suh, there is going to be a lot of space between the tackles for Devante to run at the QB through. Boy, are we going to miss watching that on Saturdays.

Leland Wong: I’m hoping to see our former Bears get drafted by the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots, the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cleveland Browns, the Indianapolis Colts, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Chicago Bears, the Minnesota Vikings, the Arizona Cardinals, the 49ers, or the Seattle Seahawks because those teams don’t have any Cal players on their rosters and that’s the only reason why I pay attention to the NFL.
