After the California Golden Bears’ loss to the Arizona Wildcats, the three remaining wins needed for bowl eligibility have become much more uncertain and that is reflected in the soothsayers’ bowl projections. After all five of the experts predicting a bowl last week, we’re down to just three this week (with one incomplete).
- ESPN, Mitch Sherman: Military Bowl (Annapolis, MD), vs. the Temple Owls
- CBS Sports: Armed Forces Bowl (Fort Worth, TX), vs. the Army Black Knights
- SBNation: Independence Bowl (Shreveport, LA), also vs. the Army Black Knights
Our old buddy at ESPN—Kyle Bonagura—no longer predicts a Cal bowl and 247 Sports only does a partial bowl projection weekly, so it’s unclear if their clairvoyance is not in Cal’s favor or if we’re just not prominent enough for a write-up from them this week.
I’m guessing y’all aren’t as excited about the prospect of visiting Shreveport compared to Las Vegas or Phoenix.

10%
Yes, but I’m a homer who lacks the intellectual maturity to have an objective conversation
-
34%
Yes, because we’re not as atrocious as UC L.A. or OSU and can upset one more team
-
54%
No, because we’ve seen Cal’s serious flaws and we needed the Arizona win to get to six
