Cal Football Recruiting: Friday Night Lights

Who was the star performer among Cal commits from this past weekend of high school football action?

NCAA Football: Weber State at California Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Nikko Remigio: WR, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA)

Remigio and the Monarchs, riding the high of beating Bishop Gorman last week, hit the ground running with a 42-0 win against La Mirada on September 8th. Remigio caught six passes for a whopping 152 yards and three touchdowns. Mater Dei is 3-0 this season.

JT Shrout: QB, Hart (Newhall, CA)

Shrout and the Hart Indians rebounded from an opening season loss to defeat Arcadia 22-6, but Shrout is still trying to find his footing as a starting quarterback. He completed just 10 of 22 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown and interception each.

Will Craig (OL) and Evan Tattersall (LB/RB): Granite Bay (Granite Bay, CA)

Granite Bay has improved to 3-0 with a 57-0 win against St. Mary’s. Tattersall registered a few crunching lead blocks and a couple of tackles in this one. Craig’s highlight is first, followed by Tattersall’s.

Chigozie Anusiem: CB, Sonora (La Habra, CA)

Anusiem and Sonora were on a bye week this past Friday.

McCallan Castles: TE, South Tahoe (South Lake Tahoe, CA)

South Tahoe were dominant against a Nevada team last week, with Castles registering a massive day, but there would be no repeat performance against Spring Creek (NV) as they suffered a 38-12 loss. Castles caught just two passes for 20 yards.

Omari Harris: RB/LB, Antioch (Antioch, CA)

Antioch continued its blistering start to the season with an exhilarating 54-44 win against San Leandro to improve to 3-0. Harris carried the load offensively with 16 rushes for 141 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 42 yards. The only negative from his performance was a lost fumble.

Nick Alftin: DE, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, CA)

Archbishop Mitty improved to 2-1 this season with a 42-6 blowout victory over Palo Alto. Alftin notched four tackles, including three tackles for a loss, and two sacks in a dominating performance from the Archbishop Mitty defense.

Atonio Mafi: DT, Junipero Serra (San Mateo, CA)

Mafi and Serra almost overcome a large first quarter deficit in this one, but their comeback fell short in a 35-28 loss to Pittsburg, which drops Serra to 1-2 this season.

Miles Owens: OL, Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland, CA)

Owens blocked for a Bishop O’Dowd offense which put up 50-plus points for a second consecutive week to improve to 2-0 after a 51-7 win against Justin-Siena.

Brandon Mello: OL, Clayton Valley Charter (Concord, CA)

Clayton Valley Charter picked up its first win of the season against Canyon Springs (NV) by way of a 22-14 scoreline.

JH Tevis: DE, Menlo (Atherton, CA)

Tevis and Menlo improved to 2-1 this season with a 28-7 win against Piedmont. Tevis put in a disruptive performance with six tackles, four tackles for a loss, and one sack.

Jasper Friis: OL, Aquinas (San Bernardino, CA)

Aquinas scored more than 40 points for a third consecutive game to start the season and improved to 3-0, this time with a 42-13 win against Crean Lutheran.

Matthew Cindric: DL, Skyline (Sammamish, WA)

Skyline recovered from their shocking defeat to start the season by securing a 27-17 win against Newport-Bellevue. Cindric didn’t show up in the box score, so he might have been hurt for this contest.

Slater Zellers: OL/LS, Notre Dame Prep (Scottsdale, AZ)

Zellers and Notre Dame Prep improved to 4-0 this season with a resounding 54-28 victory against St. Mary’s (AZ).
