When Cal begain the 2017 football season, I doubt many of us pencilled in Patrick Laird as a game-changer. Laird earned a scholarship before the season started, and then suddenly made a huge play against North Carolina, and he became one of the feel-good stories to start the Justin Wilcox era.
It’s no longer just a feel-good story. Laird may be legitimately good.
Here are the video highlights from Cal vs. Weber State.
Here are all the awesome touchdown runs from Laird, who has the most touchdowns in one game since Daniel Lasco had three of his own against Oregon State in 2014.
The other big highlight involved Demetris Robertson, who put Cal’s first points on the board at an early juncture.
Cal didn’t have the most pleasant experience today, but they ended up with the win, which is far more critical. The Bears will have to keep learning to get better, but hopefully they discovered a new weapon in Laird.
Go Bears!
