Under two weeks ago, Coach Justin Wilcox announced at the Pac-12 Media Days that OL Daniel Juarez would have to miss the 2017 season due to injury. Unfortunately, it seems the situation has worsened as he made an unfortunate announcement on Twitter this afternoon.
The staff and I have decided that I must retire from football for health purposes and will remain on full scholarship as a student at Cal. pic.twitter.com/qfAOfaRZus

Juarez first made news by announcing his commitment in an unusual means—especially given the 21st-century media bonanza that is commitments—when he declared on Reddit. Beyond that, Juarez was a popular player here on CGB because he was willing to endure a Q&A with the scallywags who work here, discussing how much he values the academics at UC Berkeley.
Despite the terrible news, Juarez is making the most of the situation—he will stay on scholarship and assist the team as an undergraduate assistant.
