Good news!

The California Golden Bears continue to pick up momentum on the recruiting trail with another major prospect narrowing his list and keeping Cal on it. This time it’s Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic linebacker Eli’jah Wilson, who puts the Bears in his top four.

Winston’s other three are the Oregon Ducks, UCLA Bruins and Utah Utes. You’d have to guess Oregon is the favorite (being the closest team), but UCLA is also getting some buzz.

Winston is ranked as the 21st best outside linebacker in this class and the sixth best prospect in the state by 247Sports Composite (317th overall). He’d be the perfect Jack pass rusher in a 3-4 defensive scheme, and also seems to have a good propensity to sniff out the run.

Cal currently has one linebacking commit in this class in Evan Tattersall, but the Bears could use way more at this position as Justin Wilcox plans on transitioning to a 3-4 defense long-term. Right now the linebacking depth is a bit thin. Cal could always use more bodies and you’d expect Wilcox to be aiming for at least three commits and potentially more in this class.
