James Looney, Matt Anderson, and Kanawai Noa are Cal’s team captains for the season opener at North Carolina

Three nines for one win.

Team captains have been announced for the California Golden Bears’ season opener when we take the Chapel Hill field against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

They will be:

  • WR Kanawai Noa (RS-SO, #9),
  • DE James Looney (RS-SR, #9), and
  • K Matt Anderson (RS-SR, #9).

That’s right—they all have something in common. They’ve all used their redshirts. Oh, they also all wear #9. Expect this to be some kind of trickeration like when Dykes did ye olde Cole Leininger–Jared Goff switch for a punt.
