One of the common requests we see every season: When will the California Golden Bears bring back their Joe Roth throwbacks? They are one of the most popular uniforms in Cal history and they are associated with one of the better periods of Golden Bear football.
It sounds as if the throwbacks will be back this year, according to a rumor from Bear Insider.
Cal wore these uniforms (seen above) during the Mike White era of the 1970s, when Cal shared the Pac-8 title once and finished in the top five of the conference six years in a row.
That Pac-8 title came with Joe Roth playing at quarterback, the only Golden Bear to have his jersey retired.
Cal most recently sported the throwbacks in 2007 when they played USC, losing a close-fought battle 24–17.
One thing to note: This throwback was made with Nike, so you can expect that the Under Armour version might be a tad different in design. Keep an eye out for that.
