Cal swimming alumni Ryan Murphy is entering the sweet spot of his swimming career. At only 22 years old, Murphy has already proven himself to be the best Cal backstroker of this generation. In his four years at Cal, Murphy won the 100 and 200 backstroke at the NCAA championships all four seasons!
The Pac-12 awarded Murphy with the honor of top Cal Athlete
On the international stage, Murphy won three gold medals at Rio, sweeping the 100 meter backstroke and the 200 meter backstroke, all while setting a world record in the former!
Murphy returned to form at the National Championships in Omaha this past week, qualifying for the 200 meter backstroke and the 100 meter backstroke events for the World Championships for Team USA. Murphy won the 200 meter backstroke and finished second in the 100 meter backstroke to make the cut for both events in Budapest.
