The California Golden Bears will have old reliable back calling plays for the football team on radio this offseason. Joe Starkey will be returning as the play-by-play man for his 43rd season.

Cal, in tandem with their new multimedia rights holder Learfield’s Cal Bears Sports Properties (what a name) renewed its radio agreement with KGO Radio. Cal football and Cal basketball will be broadcast on 810 AM Radio in the Bay Area, KESP Radio (970 AM in Modesto), KAHI Radio (950 AM in Sacramento) and KLAA Radio (830 AM, Los Angeles).

KGO claims to have a radius that goes as far as Redding, Fresno and San Luis Obispo, so if you’re within that circle (?), you should be able to get Cal on your weekend drive.

Starkey will be joined once again by Hall of Famer Mike Pawlawski as the analyst, with Todd McKim as the sideline reporter.

KGO Radio has broadcast Cal football since 1974, their 44th season together.

"Most of our fans only know KGO as the radio home of the Golden Bears," Director of Athletics Mike Williams said. "We are excited to extend our partnership and keep a familiar place on the radio for our listeners. As our flagship, KGO provides an extensive signal that encompasses much of our state, and we look forward to moving well into our fifth decade together as broadcast partners."

"Cal Football is the longest-running partnership on KGO 810-AM. We are thrilled to once again extend both Football and Men's Basketball to fans throughout Northern California," said Justin Wittmayer, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Media-San Francisco.
