The California Golden Bears are making tight ends a priority in the Justin Wilcox regime. Cal got two late commitments from Gavin Reinwald and Ben Moos in the 2017 cycle to bolster their ranks for the future at that position. They have landed a local commitment from South Lake Tahoe tight end McCallan Castles for the 2018 cycle.
With regards to the Beau Baldwin scheme, Cal probably wants to have a flex tight end who can line up in conventional formations, but also have someone who can spread out wide and do damage in deeper packages as well.
So now they’re going for the heavy lifters. Cal sent out an offer to one of the prized tight end prospects in the nation in Carterville (Ill.) tight end Luke Ford.

Ford has offers from everywhere. Alabama Crimson Tide. Oklahoma Sooners. Michigan Wolverines. Ohio State Buckeyes. Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, LSU, you name it. Ford would be a huge prize. At 6-7 and 250 pounds, he’d be a matchup nightmare for any Pac-12 defense to handle.
Here’s his Hudl tape.
