The California Golden Bears are going to be in definite need of finding a 2018 quarterback. First Max Gilliam declared his decision to transfer, and now Victor Viramontes is doing the same.

Gilliam’s transfer seemed to open a door for Viramontes to potentially work his way up the depth chart. But this move seems to indicate there might be some room between Viramontes and the top quarterbacks on the chart in the minds of the coaches, so the possibility of making the way up the depth chart was a little remote.
Cal now has three scholarship quarterbacks on their roster, with Ross Bowers and Chase Forrest battling for the starting job and Chase Garbers likely to redshirt. Cal will add South Carolina quarterback Brandon McIlwain via transfer, but he is not eligible to play until the 2018 season. Adrian Martinez has flipped his commitment from Cal to Tennessee, so the Bears are still in pursuit of finding a potential 2018 signal-caller.
Aside from Viramontes and Gilliam, Cal also recently saw wide receiver Drew Kobayashi transfer.
