- Majok Deng fled war-torn South Sudan and became a US citizen in 2010. Now he’s become a basketball standout in Arizona (Class of 2019) and has received offers from schools like Cal and Stanford. He talked with Ryan Gorcey about the Cal offer.
Women’s Basketball
- Two members of the Cal women’s basketball Final Four team, Talia Caldwell and Eliza Pierre join the women’s basketball staff as interim assistant coaches for the summer while Lindsay Gottlieb and Kai Felton are on maternity leave. This is an upgrade for Eliza who was on the basketball operations staff last season.
- Class of 2018 and 5-star wing Aquira Decosta has Cal in her final five. She talked to Rivals about this development.
Volleyball
- From the side of evil to the side of good: Stanford men’s volleyball alum Spencer McLachlin, who was a volunteer coach for the UCLA men last year, becomes an assistant coach for head coach Matt McShane of the Cal women’s volleyball team. Cayley Thurlby becomes the director of operations for the team as well, after being the director of operations for the UCLA men for the past five years.
Rugby

Track and Field
- 26 Cal athletes participated at the NCAA West Regionals. Only three Golden Bears punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships. Bethan Knights (women’s 10,000 meter run), Peter Simon (men’s shot-put), and Ashley Anderson (women’s triple jump).
Men’s Crew

Men’s Gymnastics
- Cal alum and Olympian for Great Britain Mark Freeman joins the team as an assistant coach under new head coach J.T. Okada.
Baseball
- Cal Baseball Camps open in less than two weeks! Kids of all genders from ages 6 to 12 are eligible. Find out more info here.
- Tyrus Greene, Matt Ruff and Erik Martinez were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention team.
Men’s Golf
- William Aldred and Collin Morikawa were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First team. Walker Huddy was named to the Second team. Ben Doyle, Tanner Hughes, and Clayton Madey made the honorable mention squad.
Football

The exception is Weber State at Cal, which will air only on Pac-12 Bay Area. (The national feed will show UCLA-Hawaii.).
So if you’re a Cal fan living in Los Angeles, for instance, and your system doesn’t carry the Bay Area feed, you’re probably out of luck.
