The California Golden Bears men’s basketball team has had a rough two months. Let it continue!
This blow is not quite as harsh as some others though. It doesn’t sound like Trevin Knell is coming to Cal, as he has asked for and been granted a release from his letter of intent.
“I’m really excited just to go forward and everything,” Knell told the Standard-Examiner. “I love Cal … but I feel like it was in the best interest for me and my family to get released. I’m just excited to see what’s out there.”
The damage for Cal basketball recruiting is minimal. Knell is about to embark upon his LDS mission that will take him away from sports for two years, so he wouldn’t have likely joined the team until the 2019-20 season. Cal should have plenty of time between now and then to find a decent replacement for him.
Still, it’s not exactly the time for more bad news in a month full of Cal basketball graduations, departures, transfers, and defections.
