The California Golden Bears are keeping their focus not only local, but identifying a definite position of need. The first three 2018 commits of the Justin Wilcox era are not only from Northern California, but defensive linemen as well.
Cal’s newest commit is a defensive tackle. Remember those? Meet Justin Kakala from Manteca, whose first offer was from Cal! He made his commitment earlier today, with his sister Retta making the announcement.
My best friend is officially committed @jeeezyjay no words can describe how happy and proud I am. Keep eatin little bro love u so much pic.twitter.com/bnZrX1aQdQ

Kakala measures in at 6’4 and 270 pounds. He was named to The Modesto Bee’s All-District Large-School football team. His sister will be heading out East to play for Louisville basketball. Kakala registered 56 tackles (10 for a loss) and 11 sacks as well as a punt block return for a touchdown in a playoff game.
Check out Kakala’s video highlights!
Cal now has three defensive line commits in this class, with Kakala joining defensive end JH Tevis and defensive end Nick Alftin. Both Tevis and Alftin reside in the Bay Area, with Kakala residing in San Joaquin County. Can Cal keep on keeping it local?
Welcome to Cal Justin! Go Bears!
