Fresno (Ca.) Clovis West quarterback Adrian Martinez committed early as a junior to the California Golden Bears under head coach Sonny Dykes last November. With Dykes gone, Martinez’s recruitment is now up for grabs (even though he has publicly stated he is happy with the Bears), and there are plenty of potential replacements
The offers have started to roll in for him from all corners.
- Mark Richt and the Miami Hurricanes visited in January after an October offer.
- The West Virginia Mountaineers (Jake Spavital’s new home) and Tennessee Volunteers gave out offers at the end of February.
- The Arizona State Sun Devils and Georgia Bulldogs were next up in March.
And now the big boys have come calling. Tosh Lupoi has personally extended an offer to Martinez in hopes of poaching him to the powerhouse of college football.

After the Alabama Crimson Tide, the busy week hasn’t ended. The Ole Miss Rebels have offered, as have Oregon. Don’t expect this to end anytime soon.
Thankful to have just received a scholarship offer from The University of Mississippi!#HottyToddy pic.twitter.com/J4wXjWzk2o

So basically Martinez is going to be a recruit in demand until we can be certain Justin Wilcox has locked him up. The big question is what Cal’s plan are at the quarterback position, and whether Martinez is the type of player Wilcox wants to keep in the fold. Cal does want to take two quarterbacks in this cycle, and it’s unclear if Martinez would be okay with that arrangement or would prefer to be the ‘one and only’ in a recruiting class.
Those questions will probably not be answered until Martinez makes his next trip up to Berkeley.
Where does #Cal commit @MartinezTheQB stand after his new offers? What's the status of his commitment? https://t.co/YOe04NRfpj

It’s going to take some extra work to keep him away from the big recruiting powers. Let the battle begin.
