If there is any spot at which Cal is deficient in overall talent, it’s linebacker. The Bears just don’t have that much depth at the position. Let’s take a look at some of the early 2018 offers.

Brighton (Ut.) OLB Salua Masina: Masina is the 9th best outside linebacker according to 247Sports and the second best prospect in the state of Utah according to 247Sports (185th overall, four stars, 0.9248). Masina holds offers from Cal, USC, BYU, Colorado, Nebraska, UCLA, Utah, Vanderbilt and Washington State.

Sumner (Wa.) linebacker Ben Wilson: Wilson is the 16th best inside linebacker according to 247 Composite and the fifth best prospect in the state of Washington (three-stars, 0.875). Wilson holds offers from Arizona, Cal, TCU, UCLA, Utah, Vanderbilt and Washington State.

Waianae (Hi.) linebacker Kana’i Mauga: Mauga is the 66th best outside linebacker according to 247Composite and the fourth best prospect in the state of Hawaii (three stars, 0.8222). Mauga holds offers from Cal, Oregon State, Washington State, Vanderbilt and Hawaii.

Mauga has a very early favorable relationship with Marques Tuiasosopo.
