The California Golden Bears have found their 2017 point guard. Meet Deschon Winston of Lake Winston Birmingham, who made his commitment to the Bears today.

Winston ended up leading Birmingham to its first ever City basketball title in the Section Open Division championship, knocking off 13-title Westchester. Winston averaged 18 points a game for his team and put up 19 points in the title game.
It’s up to Winston to make sure everyone is on the same page, though the challenge isn’t that difficult.
“I don’t even have to try,” he said. “We automatically do that. We start off in practice already unselfish. We automatically hit the open person. It’s just the way we play. We can all score. It doesn’t matter who gets a point or who gets an assist. As long as we’re winning, we’re all OK.”
Winston joins Justice Sueing, Juhwan Harris-Dyson, Trevin Knell and Grant Anticevich as members of the Golden Bears recruiting class.
The future good news for Cal is that four-star 2018 prospect Devonaire Doutrive is his teammate, and is pretty close to Winston. But for now Cal gets an impressive under-the-radar recruit who will likely be given the wheels to run the offense for new basketball coach Wyking Jones.
